Introducing PatentOrder Intranet

PatentOrder Web retrieves patent documents from over 50 countries worldwide, combining the individual pages into a single PDF file.

Searchable PDFs are available, and Machine Translations can be ordered for a growing number of countries including Japan, China and Korea.

Ordered documents are archived for future use, and the requestor can be notified by email when their order is ready. Multiple patent documents can be ordered at once, with the option to download as a convenient single Zip file.

Additional modules (INPADOC and Document Wizard) can be integrated into the basic PatentOrder Web interface. These will only be visible to users if they are included in their company’s PatentOrder subscription.

Order Form

To order documents, enter patent numbers (one per line) into the order box.

Patent numbers should follow the Espacenet patent number format. For guidance on using the correct patent number format, click here.

Before submitting your order, fill in the Delivery details on the right hand side including:

Email address: Enter your valid email address here in order for all your orders to be associated with your email address. This field is obligatory.

Sub-Account: Enter your reference here. This field is optional.

Email notification: Select ‘Yes’ if you wish to be notified of completion of the order by email. If you select ‘No’, you can still access your orders from the Trace Order page.

Zip file: If ordering multiple patent documents, you can request the order to be packed into a single Zip file for convenience.

• Direct Order

If you have specified what documents you require by adding kind codes to the patent numbers to signify the document types (e.g. A or B), submit your order using the Direct Order button.

By default the service will retrieve the A1 or A2 publications for EP and PCT publications, but B1, B2 or A3 publications can be requested (please refer to Coverage Details and Publication Number Formats for more details).

• Verify Order

Click on Verify Order to preview the different document types available (e.g. A or B document) before selecting the documents you require and submitting the order. This screen also shows you if there is a Machine Translation available to order.

• Equivalent Look-up

This feature allows you to request the Equivalents (same members of the patent family) listed by Espacenet (the European Patent Office server) for a particular publication number.

Enter the publication number and press the search icon. A list of equivalents will be displayed.

[Note that publications listed as not available on the EPO server may be available on other servers that PatentOrder reaches out to. It may be worth still selecting the publication in order to check if it can be retrieved from other sources.]

Tick the boxes of any publications you wish to order, and click ‘Use selected’ to order the documents. The patent numbers will automatically be pasted into the order box.

• Tempus IP link

For users who have Tempus IP integration enabled, a link will be visible below the Order box to take you directly to the Tempus IP website. Tempus IP, a partner company of Minesoft, offers a complete line of IP document retrieval services including US file histories: www.tempusip.com.

Trace Orders

The trace order page allows you to see the progress of pending orders, and to review completed orders. The last 30 orders requested are displayed on screen.

If you request a patent document that you have ordered previously, it will be available to view straight away as the system will not need to download it a second time.

In cases where multiple patents have been ordered, the status for each patent document is displayed. Click on the ticket reference to view that particular order. The patent documents are available to view in PDF, searchable PDF, or Text formats.

You also have the option to Zip and download orders from the trace order page.

INPADOC

INPADOC is an optional additional module – if your PatentOrder account does not include this module, the tab will not be visible on the interface.

This feature allows you to view up-to-date INPADOC family and legal status information for patents of interest.

Family, bibliographic and legal status information can be displayed – select the preferred display format from the dropdown menu below the order basket.

Links to corresponding national registers for each family member are available from within the INPADOC family display.

The information displayed can be exported into Word or HTML format.

When entering your numbers to search, the following patent number format should be used:

Country Code (2 letters) + Serial Number (variable, 1-10 digits).

Do not enter blanks, zeros or hyphens between the country code and the serial number.

For more details on patent number formats, click here

If you are using priority or application numbers rather than publication numbers, check the box below the order basket.

Document Wizard

DocumentWizard is an optional additional module - if your PatentOrder account does not include this module, the tab will not be visible on the interface.

This feature automatically hyperlinks any patent numbers contained within Word or Excel files to the original patent document PDF.

Upload your Word or Excel document using the Import button, and select the appropriate download option. Choosing to ‘download from all countries’ will take longer to process than only downloading patents from key or selected countries.

Publication Number Formats

Key:
cc indicates that a country code is required e.g. JP, US or GB
j indicates that a Japanese Emperor year is required (From 1925-1988, Emperor years are calculated by subtracting 1925 from the western year. From 1989-date, Emperor years are calculated by subtracting 1988 from the western year)
n(X) indicates the number of digits present in the number format y,yy or yyyy indicates the year must be used in 1, 2 or 4 digit format

Using the Espacenet number format:

Patent Order uses the Espacenet number format. This is made up of a 2 letter country code (CC) and a serial number (n) of 1 to 10 digits. Some countries include the publication year as part of the serial number e.g. PCT publications. Do not enter spaces, zeros, hyphens or commas between the country code and the serial number.

Examples:

US8193327
DE10066178
EP2237063
WO11039772

Please note the following changes for PCT number formats:

1978 to 30 June 2002: WOYYNNNNN
1 July 2002 to 31 December 2003: WOYYNNNNNN
Since 1 January 2004: WOYYYYNNNNNN

Ordering EP B1 and B2 specifications and EP and WO A3 search reports

To order these publications, a kind code must be used or Patent Order will automatically retrieve the A1 or A2 publications.

e.g.
EP2237063 retrieves the A1 document (application with search report)
EP2237063B1 retrieves the B1 document (specification)
EP1513113 retrieves the A1 document (application with search report)
EP1513113B2 retrieves the B2 document (new patent specification)
EP2236899 retrieves the A2 document (application without search report)
EP2236899A3 retrieves the A3 document (search report)
WO11039772 retrieves the A2 document (application without search report)
WO11039772A3 retrieves the A3 document (publication of search report)
